Cancelling your phone or internet plan by sending a registered letter
Why do you have to send a registered letter? Unless you have subscribed your contract online, you need to send a letter to cancel your internet or mobile contract. All providers accept cancellation by post, regardless of the situation, which is why we recommend sending one to cancel your plan. What's more, sending your cancellation letter in French by registered post will enable you to keep track of when they receive the letter. Just be sure to send the letter as a "lettre recommandée avec avis de réception".

- Your full name (first name, family name);

In short, this letter contains the following information:
- A statement that you wish to cancel your contract, including your contract number;
- The end date of the contract period;
- The desired end date of the contract;
- The legitimate reason for cancellation (such as moving abroad) in order to obtain a refund;
- A request for the account closure invoice and for a written confirmation of the effective date of cancellation.

When to Send the Service Cancellation Letter
The termination of your mobile phone or Internet plan will take effect 10 days following the date of the reception of your cancellation letter, unless you have noted a date further in the future. Note that if you are cancelling your plan because you have left the country, you may have to wait until you have already left and have the appropriate documentation before you can cancel your Internet or mobile phone plan.
If you have a plan that is sans engagement (non-binding), you do not need to provide any accompanying documentation to justify your cancellation.
Fixed-term plans, on the other hand, tend to include fees for early termination. However, if you are cancelling your fixed term plan because you are leaving the country, you should be able to close it without penalty. This is considered a motif legitime de resiliation, and is mandated by French law (loi Chatel).
Moving abroad? Under the loi Chatel, leaving France is a motif légitime de résiliation — you can exit a fixed-term contract without paying early termination fees. Include supporting documents to prove your move.
You must include supporting documentation that proves your upcoming move in order to leave your plan without being charged early termination fees. While you should check with your provider to verify what types of documents they accept, typical pieces justicatives commonly accepted by French telecommunications operators include:
- 1Copy of a rental contract or property ownership title;
- 2A copy of your work contract (note that it must specify a term of at least six months to a year);
- 3A moving bill;
- 4Tax assessment notice;
- 5For students: a letter of acceptance for a school program (of at least one year).
Note that the documents may have to be translated if they are not in French, English, Spanish, or German.
Can I cancel my internet contract or mobile plan online?
If you have subscribed to your contract online, you have the right to cancel your contract online too. Follow the steps below:
Go to your customer space (espace client) on the operator's website
Click on "Résilier mon contrat"
Fill in the details and send your request
Your operator will send a confirmation email and tell you the effective date of cancellation.
Is it free to cancel my internet or mobile plan in France?
Internet plan cancellation fees
Internet providers charge a cancellation fee of around €50. If the contract period has not yet expired, you must also pay the remaining months.
However, it is possible to get a refund in the following cases:
- Moving house and incompatibility of the new home with the internet plan;
- Moving abroad (outside France);
- Dismissal;
- Over-indebtedness;
- Detention;
- Death.

Mobile plan cancellation fees
If you cancel a 24-month contract during the first year, you will have to pay all the remaining monthly instalments for the first 12 months, plus 20% of the monthly instalments for the second year.
If you cancel a 24-month contract during the second year,, you only have to pay 20% of the remaining monthly instalments. Depending on the operator, handling fees may also be added. This must be specified in your contract.
However, it's possible to obtain a refund for the same reasons as for the Internet plan:
- Moving house and incompatibility of the new home with the internet plan;
- Moving abroad (outside France);
