How to set up Mint Energie energy for your home in France
The process is completely different depending on your situation — choose yours below.
If there is no active contract at your new address, the electricity will be off when you arrive.
This is very common in France. Always call your supplier before your move-in date — activation by ENEDIS takes 1–5 business days. A same-day emergency connection is possible but costs extra.
How it works
What you'll need
- PDL number — 14-digit meter reference. On your Linky meter, on a previous bill left at the address, or via your landlord. This is mandatory.
- French bank account (RIB) — Most French suppliers require direct debit (prélèvement automatique). If you don't have a French account yet, call Selectra — some suppliers accept foreign IBANs.
- Passport or EU ID — For identity verification. A copy is sometimes requested by post after sign-up.
- PCE number — Gas meter reference, equivalent of the PDL for natural gas. On your last gas bill or on the meter.
- Move-in date — Needed to schedule activation. Give as much notice as possible.
Mint Energie customer reviews: what to expect as an expat
Overall customer score
Average across 4 review platforms · 15,155 total reviews
What this means for you
Mint Energie consistently earns strong customer ratings — one of the better-reviewed suppliers on the French market. Most reviews praise pricing and contract clarity. Note that all reviews come from French-speaking customers; the experience for expats mainly depends on how you manage French-language correspondence.
Note for expats
All reviews are from French-speaking customers. Language barriers with customer service affect every supplier equally — Selectra's English service acts as your intermediary at no cost.
How the overall score of 4.4/5 is calculated
The overall score is a weighted average, not a simple average of the 4 platform scores. Each platform counts in proportion to its number of reviews, so a platform with thousands of reviews weighs more than one with a few dozen. For each platform, the score is multiplied by its number of reviews; the results are added up, then divided by the total number of reviews.
66,958 ÷ 15,155 reviews = 4.42, rounded to 4.4/5.
Trustpilot alone accounts for 72% of the reviews, so its score drives most of the result.
Ombudsman complaint rate
36 per 100,000 contracts
Every year, France's Médiateur national de l'énergie — the independent national energy ombudsman — publishes how many residential customers filed a formal dispute against each supplier, per 100,000 contracts. A high rate means more customers had complaints that their supplier failed to resolve directly. Only large suppliers with over 50,000 residential contracts are included.
Mint Energie's rate of 36 ranks 15th out of 16 ranked suppliers (lower is better). The market average is 23.8 per 100,000 contracts. Mint Energie sits above the market average. This does not necessarily mean bad service, but it is worth bearing in mind — especially if you are not fluent in French and a billing dispute becomes harder to resolve.

About Mint Energie
Mint Énergie is a French supplier of renewable electricity and gas, known for pairing competitive prices with green energy. It always keeps one low-cost, more-or-less green offer on the market, alongside greener electricity and gas offers that come with stricter environmental guarantees at a higher price.
Our review of Mint Energie
Mint Énergie positions itself as a renewable energy supplier with very competitive prices — a combination that can seem paradoxical. That is why the supplier permanently keeps one more-or-less green offer at a very competitive price, while at the same time marketing electricity and gas offers with stricter environmental guarantees that are also more expensive. This strategy has paid off for Mint Énergie, which is seeing strong growth in its customer base.
As for customer service quality, Mint Énergie has come a long way and shows a particularly impressive improvement trend. In 2023, the supplier was going through a very difficult period, marked by a critical rate of 233 disputes per 100,000 contracts according to figures from the National Energy Ombudsman (Médiateur national de l'énergie).
Since then, the company has invested heavily to turn things around and restructure its services, managing to divide that figure by almost eight. With a rate now down to 30 complaints at the institution's latest assessment, Mint Énergie has moved considerably closer to the national average (set at 25).
While it still has one last effort to make to join the front-runners, this rapid progress reflects a genuine commitment to making its customer support more reliable and regaining its subscribers' trust.
Awards and rankings
Mint Énergie has received the following awards, trophies and labels:
Service France Garanti certification: First obtained in 2021, Mint renewed its "Service France Garanti" certification in July 2023. This label recognises its 100% French expertise and its local roots, both in its services and in its choice of partners.
"Engagé RSE niveau confirmé" label: Mint holds the "Engagé RSE niveau confirmé" label, reflecting its commitment since day one to a corporate social responsibility (CSR) approach for structural sustainable development, both social and environmental.
ADEME's VertVolt label: Mint Énergie's green electricity offer "Smart & Green PREMIUM" carries the "VertVolt, choix engagé" label from ADEME (France's ecological transition agency). This label guarantees greater transparency on green electricity offers and commits the supplier to buying both the electricity and the guarantees of origin from the same French green energy producer.
In the past, Mint Énergie won the 2019 Selectra Prize for Best New Supplier, a distinction awarded to an energy supplier with a portfolio of fewer than 100,000 customers.
