Our commitment

Selectra compares broadband, mobile, TV, energy, insurance and banking offers, and helps people subscribe to them. This page explains how that comparison works: which offers we list, how we rank them, how we are paid, and what that means for the advice you get. It is written so that you can check our incentives yourself rather than take our word for it.

How Selectra is paid

You can subscribe to offers through Selectra with the providers we partner with. We are paid by the partner provider for each contract taken out with that provider. The service is therefore free for you, with no surcharge for subscribing through Selectra rather than directly with the provider.

Being paid by providers does not change the ranking. We are not paid for listing an offer, and commissions do not move an offer up a comparison. The one exception is described under highlighted partner offers, and it is always visually separated from the ranking itself.

Why our incentives point the same way as yours: a comparison service only works if people come back to it. That means our comparators have to include the providers of the market as widely as possible, partners or not, and it means steering someone towards an offer that does not suit them costs us far more in the long run than any single commission is worth.

Partnerships

Selectra partners with several dozen providers. Some are direct partners — we have a contractual relationship with them, with no intermediary. For others, the partnership runs through an affiliate platform, that is, an intermediary between advertisers and content publishers.

A partnership can also be partial: for a given market we may be a partner for some products only, or for one acquisition or sales channel only. That is why a provider can be a partner on one page of this site and not on another — for example a provider whose broadband offers we distribute by phone but whose mobile plans can only be taken out online.

Wherever an offer or a contact button appears, the page states whether Selectra is a partner of that provider. Where we are not, the block says so.

Highlighted partner offers

Selectra reserves the possibility of placing a partner offer in first position in a ranking. When that happens, the highlighted offer is clearly distinguished from the ranking so it cannot be mistaken for the result of the sort. Advertising banners may also be reserved for a partner provider or for an event.

Listing and de-listing

Unless a page states otherwise:

  • comparisons present offers and providers on a non-exhaustive basis, as a selection representative of the market for the subject of the page — for instance "the cheapest offers", or a comparison of one provider with another;
  • listing is free and we are not paid for it.

A provider does not have to be a partner to appear. Conversely, an offer stops being listed when the provider withdraws it from sale, when the data we receive for it is no longer reliable, or when the provider asks to be removed. If you represent a provider and want to discuss your listing, write to [email protected].

Ranking criteria

Every comparison on this site carries a legend stating the criterion actually applied to it. The criterion follows the sort you have selected, so the legend changes when you change the sort — it is never a fixed label.

Broadband, TV and mobile comparisons

By default, offers are sorted by lowest monthly price first. You can change that:

  • lowest annual price first, when you switch the comparison to the annual view;
  • highest download speed first, for broadband;
  • largest data allowance first, or best data-per-euro ratio, for mobile plans;
  • Selectra score, which combines the offer's characteristics independently of any commission.

Where a page compares a narrower set — a single provider's range, or two providers against each other — the page says so in its title and the same legend rules apply.

Other markets

Energy, insurance and banking comparisons on this site follow the general framework above. Their market-specific criteria are stated in the legend of each comparison.

Prices, additional fees and guarantees

Prices shown are the providers' public rates, all taxes included, read live from the Selectra comparator each time a page is loaded. Where an offer has a promotional period, the comparison shows the promotional price and, when the provider publishes it, the price that applies afterwards.

One-off fees are set by the provider, not by Selectra — activation, equipment, installation or shipping charges depend on the provider and on your situation, and are detailed in the provider's own contractual documents. The same applies to commercial guarantees, trial periods and commitment terms: they are the provider's, they vary by product, and the provider's terms prevail over anything summarised here.

Selectra's service stops at handling the subscription. Selectra cannot be held liable for a dispute arising between a subscriber and their provider once the contract is in place.

How often the data is updated

Offers, prices and speeds in the comparators are not stored in the pages: they are read from the Selectra comparator on each page load, so they reflect the catalogue at the moment you look at it. Each comparison also displays the date on which it was consulted.

Other page content — editorial text, figures quoted in an article, contact details — follows two rules:

  • as soon as we become aware that a piece of data is out of date, we correct it as quickly as possible;
  • more generally, we go back over pages regularly, and at least once every three months for the most-viewed pages, to check that their data still holds.

We would rather hear about an error than not: see report an error.

Customer reviews

How reviews are collected

Customers who subscribed through Selectra receive an e-mail a few weeks later inviting them to review their provider. Anyone can also submit a review at any time from the review form on a provider's page. Submitting a review earns the author nothing: there is no payment, no discount and no reward of any kind in exchange for a review.

How reviews are checked

Selectra aims to publish authentic reviews only. Everyone submitting a review is asked to certify on their honour that they are, or have been, a customer of the provider they are reviewing, and to give a valid e-mail address. Every review is then read by a person at Selectra and is only published after that human check. A review that breaches our moderation charter, or that comes from an invalid e-mail address, is not published.

When someone subscribed to a provider through Selectra and reviews that provider using the same e-mail address, we add a "verified customer" mention next to the review. Otherwise no mention appears, because we are not then in a position to guarantee that the author is or was a customer of that provider.

None of the data collected for the purpose of publishing reviews is used for commercial purposes. Your e-mail address is never published: it is used only to send the verification link. See our privacy policy for your rights over that data.

How reviews are ordered, and how the score is calculated

Reviews are ordered from the most recent to the oldest by default, and can be re-ordered by rating. Where a provider has reviews from verified customers, only those are shown by default; you can display all of them by turning off the "verified customers only" option.

A provider's score is the weighted average of all the ratings it has received from verified customers. Where a page shows a score aggregated across several review platforms, that score is the weighted average of the ratings collected on the Selectra site and on the other platforms where reviews of that provider are available, such as Trustpilot. Each platform is named next to its score.

Moderation charter

Once a review is submitted, we aim to publish it within two working days. Authors may choose not to display their first name and surname. Selectra reserves the right to keep submitted reviews for a maximum of 10 years.

Once submitted, a review cannot be edited. You can ask for your review to be deleted by e-mailing [email protected]. It is not possible to contact the author of a review. A provider, however, may reply to a review, in which case the reply appears underneath it.

What we moderate

Reviews are free in their content provided they observe basic decency. The following are moderated:

  • racist, xenophobic, homophobic or revisionist content, and incitement to discrimination, hatred or violence;
  • coarse, vulgar or insulting language;
  • messages unrelated to the provider concerned;
  • reviews containing the personal contact details of the author or of a third party — e-mail address, phone number, customer account number — which are moderated to protect privacy;
  • reviews already published on our platform;
  • any review whose authenticity is in doubt, or which has been paid for;
  • reviews sharing a referral code or any other form of personal advertising, since that practice casts doubt on the objectivity of the review.

If a review is refused, the author receives an e-mail telling them so and giving the reason for the refusal.

If you are a provider and want to react to a review

We offer two free ways to react to a published review:

  1. tell us if you doubt a review's authenticity, by sending a reasoned report to [email protected];
  2. ask us at [email protected] to open an access so that you can reply to each published review. Your reply is published directly underneath the review concerned.

Disputes and right of withdrawal

If something goes wrong during a comparison, with the information on this site, or while subscribing to an offer, contact us at [email protected] or on 01 86 76 72 47 (cost of a local call).

You have a 14-day right of withdrawal. To exercise it, contact us at the same address or number.

Report an error, or ask about this methodology

Our teams pay particular attention to keeping the comparator up to date. If you have spotted an error, or have a question about how offers are listed, please tell us — we will answer as quickly as we can.
